Uses:

• HIV infection
• Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection

How it works:

• Inhibits the reverse transcriptase enzyme of HIV
• Restricts the replication of the viral genome
• Reduces the production of new infectious viral particles

Important information:

• Does not cure the infection
• Reduces the amount of virus in the body
• Increases CD4 cell count in the blood
