  • Soft tissue and skin infections, including dental infections
  • Bone and joint infections

Therapeutic Effects:

  • Augmentin ES combines Amoxicillin (an antibiotic) and Clavulanic Acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor).
  • Amoxicillin prevents the formation of the structural component of bacteria, which is essential for their survival.
  • Clavulanic Acid reduces the activity of enzymes and prevents the inactivation of Amoxicillin against bacteria.

Interaction with Other Drugs:

  • Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, nutritional and vitamin supplements, and herbal products.
  • Certain medications such as Allopurinol, Probenecid, Warfarin, Methotrexate, and Mycophenolate mofetil may interact with Augmentin ES and reduce effectiveness by causing undesirable side effects.

Safety Advice:

  • Keep the medicine away from the reach of children and pets.

  • If you missed a dose, do not take a double dose for the forgotten dose.
  • If you have overdosed on Augmentin ES syrup, contact the hospital or a doctor immediately for medical advice.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

  • Before starting the treatment, it is advised to talk with your doctor about whether taking Augmentin ES during pregnancy is safe or unsafe.
  • Consult your doctor before starting the treatment if you are breastfeeding.

Special Considerations:

  • Inform your doctor if you are a patient with any lung disorders.
  • Augmentin ES should be taken cautiously in patients with liver impairment. Regular monitoring of your liver function test should be taken.

  • Augmentin ES can cause dizziness and sleepiness, which is unsafe and makes you unfit to drive.

Side Effects:

  • Serious: allergic reactions such as skin rash and blood vessel inflammation (red or purple spots), hyperactivity, decrease in white blood cell count.
  • Common: fever, joint pain, swelling in the neck, groin, or armpit, angioedema (swelling of face or throat), difficulty in breathing, diarrhea.

FAQs:

  • Q 1. Are there any serious side effects of Augmentin ES? Serious side effects are rare, but they can occur. These include severe allergic reactions, liver damage, or a decrease in white blood cell count.
  • Q 2. How does the combination of Augmentin ES work? Augmentin ES is a penicillin-type antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria, while clavulanic acid extends the spectrum of amoxicillin's antibacterial activity and helps to prevent bacterial resistance.
  • Q 3. Can I still take Augmentin ES if I have had a previous allergic reaction to penicillin? If you have had a previous allergic reaction to penicillin, it's essential to inform your healthcare provider before starting treatment with Augmentin ES. Depending on the severity of your allergic reaction, your doctor may recommend an alternative medication.
  • Q 4. What should I do if I experience side effects? If you experience any side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Sometimes, they may advise you to stop taking the medication or switch to a different medication.
